Physical Examinations
In cases of limited financial resources or and inability to take time off from work, parents can receive a physical for their child on a sliding fee schedule in a child care facility. The parent does not have to receive funding from 4C, but must demonstrate a financial need. A telephone interview is completed bye a 4C nurse prior to the exam date. If and illness state is revealed, pharmacological therapy is begun by the nurse practitioner. Referrals for follow-up care or other resources are provided
Immunizations
Florida law states that each child must have and up to date immunization record on file at a center. We can review records and if child meets the requirements under the Vaccines for Children Program, we can provide this service at the center at no charge.
Referrals for Children with Disabilities
This department maintains the Directory of Early Childhood Services. The resources include recreational programs, community agencies,, physicians, dentists, mental health providers, home health agencies, support groups, school programs, therapists and provisions for respite care. Additionally, linkages for families experiencing difficulty locating private child care options are made with providers who have received recent training in the inclusion model...
CPR and First Aid Training
The "Child Health and Emergency Care" course is taught on a quarterly basis and advertised in the 4C newsletter "The Source." This course satisfies licensing requirements for first aid training and adult, child and infant CPR. To register, call the 4C Education Office at (407) 522-2252
Health Screenings
Vision, hearing and speech screenings are available for 3, 4, and 5 year olds. Developmental screenings are provided for children of all ages, apart from the above screening program.
State Mandated Developmental Training and Follow-up
Beginning July 1, 1988, the state of Florida has mandated that all 3 and 4 year old children in subsidized care receive developmental screening. This screening helps raise the quality of care children and are receiving and provide a curriculum promoting areas of development. Care givers, providers and directors are trained to screen the children using Brigance Preschool Screen. Results are evaluated by the 4C Coordinator of Developmental Screening and follow-up activities and/or further screening are implemented.
